PrideSunday, June 9 marked the annual Capital Pride Festival in Washington, DC and the L.A. Pride Celebration and Parade in Los Angeles, CA. As in previous years, Compassion Over Killing was excited to join the festivities by distributing hundreds of free vegan food samples and thousands of pro-veg literature.

Rehoboth Beach VegFestOn Sat., June 1, 2013 over 600 people joined us at Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach, DE to celebrate vegetarian foods during the first-ever Rehoboth Beach VegFest. Festival-goers spent the day indulging in vegan food, listening to speakers, browsing the vendor shops, and enjoying the gorgeous weather.

Even before the festival opened, dozens of eager attendees walked around to visit the over 35 exhibitor booths. Within the first half an hour of the festival opening, volunteers had distributed all 300 of our free goodie bags, filled with free products, coupons, and other items from our sponsors to excited attendees.

VegFestAfter a record turnout in 2012, the DC VegFest is back, and we’re excited to share that the DC VegFest will return to the beautiful Yards Park on Sat., September 28! While taking in the beautiful scenery surrounding the waterfront boardwalk, you’ll be able to enjoy delicious animal-friendly fare, listen to dynamic speakers—including Vice President of Farm Animal Protection at the Humane Society of the United States, Paul Shapiro, Betty Goes Vegan cookbook authors Annie and Dan Shannon, ultra-athlete Rich Roll, and more—and enjoy everything else you love about the DC VegFest. You won’t want to miss it!

With nationwide childhood obesity rates reaching unprecedented levels, it’s clear that the time has come to swap the greasy cafeteria “mystery” meatloaf and fatty chicken nuggets out for healthier protein-packed plant-based options. This cafeteria conversion is well underway in schools across the US — from Meatless Mondays to all veg menus — and it’s good news for our health, the planet, and animals.

Vegan Baking Our fifth annual US VegWeek wrapped up on Sunday, and it was a resounding success!

The weeklong celebration highlighting the many benefits and flavors of vegetarian eating included more than 3,500 people from coast to coast taking our 7-Day VegPledge, 140 restaurant specials offered in 21 states, 150 events held in 33 states, and more media coverage than ever before.

Today marks the 43rd anniversary of Earth Day, a day intended to encourage individuals to take meaningful actions in their everyday lives that, collectively, contribute to preserving the planet. But in the words of late Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson who founded Earth Day, “Our goal is not just an environment of clean air and water and scenic beauty. The objective is an environment of decency, quality and mutual respect for all other human beings and all other living creatures.”
